It was a strong day for the Fort Dodge girls swim team at their annual Gary Winkler Invitational.
Three Dodger swimmers picked up event titles as Fort Dodge finished second overall with 360 points. Sioux City Metro was crowned team champions with 424, while Spencer finished third and Algona was fourth.
Hailey Vogel, Julia Eastman and Eileen Fierke all won events, while FDSH had seven runnerup medals, including all three relays.
Vogel captured the 50 freestyle in 25.58, which was an improvement over her seed time entering the meet. Eastman won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.49 and Fierke the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.12, leading a 1-2-3 Dodger finish.
“It was a great day for swimming,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “The girls swam through some soreness to get some good midseason times.”
Vogel was second to Fierke in the race, going 1:09.66, while Makenna Kammerer was third in 1:13.89, an improvement over her best time.
Delaney O’Connor captured silver in diving with 246.75 points, Eastman was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.88 and Fierke placed second in the 100 freestyle in 55.74.
Fierke, Vogel, Eastman and Kammerer went 1:56.71 to secure silver in the 200 medley relay, while Fierke, Eastman, Gracie Harvey and Vogel went 1:44.73 for second in the 200 freestyle relay, setting a new seasons-best. Kammerer, Harvey, O’Connor and Raegan Woolridge claimed second in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:14.50.
“Makenna had a lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke, and it was so awesome to see them go 1-2-3,” Beaumont said. “The 200 free relay had an amazing swim as well, dropping almost two seconds, and are just four seconds off the school-record. I believe that they could break that this year by the time we get to regionals.”
Earning third place finishes for the Dodgers were Addison Daniel in the 200 freestyle (2:15.87), Wooldridge in the 500 freestyle (6:01.35) and Kammerer in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.89).
Algona’s Reese Taylor won diving with 318.25 points and Brooke Ludwig was fourth in the 200 freestyle.
Fort Dodge returns to the pool on Tuesday at Mason City.
