Another Shutout
HUMBOLDT -- Top-ranked Humboldt remained perfect on the season and on defense.
The Wildcats (4-0 overall) earned their fourth straight shutout, knocking off Boone (0-4) 37-0.
The Humboldt defense held the Toreadors to 135 yards of total offense, while racking up 400 yards of their own, 268 coming on the ground.
Both Will Orness and Lance Coon rushed for over 100 yards.
Orness was behind center on Friday for the Wildcats, going 14-for-21 for 132 yards and a touchdown.
Orness hooked up with Corey Dettmann for a 25-yard touchdown in the first quarter. He also carried the ball 16 times for 131 yards.
It was another big performance for Coon, who rushed for 122 yards on 14 carries and four touchdowns.
He reached paydirt from one, one, six and 69 yards.
Trever Beach remained perfect kicking field goals, making his fourth of the season. Beach kicked his longest of the year from 37 yards out.
Greenfield accounts for three touchdowns
NEWELL -- Fourth-ranked Newell-Fonda pitched a shutout to earn their fourth victory of the season.
The Mustangs (4-0 overall) blanked Bishop Garrigan (2-2) 19-0 on Friday night.
Ryan Greenfield was solid on both sides of the ball for the Mustangs.
Greenfield accounted for three touchdowns. He ran for scores of 13 and 11 and caught a 23-yard scoring strike from quarterback Mason Dicks.
Greenfield also had eight tackles on defense.
Dicks was 11-for-18 passing for 107 yards and one score. He also had an interception on defense.
Ty Tauber and Caden Meyer had nine tackles each.
Cherry rushes for five TDs
WEBSTER CITY -- After suffering a loss, Webster City has made their next oppenent pay.
The Lynx (2-2 overall) cruised to a 49-14 victory over Mason City (2-2) on Friday night.
Running back Jaxon Cherry had an outstanding performance, running for 246 yards and five touchdowns.
Cherry now has nine touchdowns and over 600 yards rushing.
Webster City was coming off a 28-0 loss to Waverly-Shell Rock.
The week after losing 10-0 Humboldt, the Lynx beat Boone 54-0.
In their next games after losses, Webster City has outscored their oppoenents, 103-14.
The Lynx travel to Fort Dodge to face the Dodgers (2-2) on Friday.
Jaguars fall to No. 3 OABCIG
IDA GROVE -- Southeast Valley stood tall for three quarters with third-ranked OABCIG, before the Falcons broke through for a 28-8 victory.
The Jaguars (2-2 overall, 0-1 in district) led the Falcons 8-7 at halftime, but OABCIG had three big second half touchdowns.
Falcon quarterback Beckett DeJean broke free for an 80-yard plus touchdown to make it 14-8. OABCIG added two 50-plus yard scoring plays in the second half.
Southeast Valley's score came on a 65-yard fumble return for a touchdown from Ethan Ackerson.
Dalton Crouse had 21 carries for 72 yards and threw for 66 yards.
Justin Loseke led the defense with 10.5 tackles.
