Sports Park Raceway welcomes Heartland Challenge

Submitted photo: Sports Park Raceway will host the 2022 GBC Powersports Tires Heartland Challenge on Friday and Saturday.

Drivers of all ages will be at Sports Park Raceway again beginning Friday for the GBC Powersports Tires Heartland Challenge.

This marks the second year the event has been held at the track.

Action begins Friday at 2 p.m. and on Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

ATV and UTV endurance races are considered some of the nation’s most demanding off-road racing and feature a wide variety of length, obstacles and race conditions.

Planned races include a two-hour 50cc youth race, three-hour youth ATV race, four-hour adult UTV race and the piece de resistance, which is a 10-hour adult ATV team/iron man race.

All of these events push riders and their machines both mentally and physically, with adult competitors being further challenged by racing in the dark.

Both seven and 7.7 mile courses will be created through the Sports Park Raceway property to accommodate the event. Last year, riders from 16 states including New York and Arkansas competed.

Vendors also made the trip from California and Utah.

The challenge was recruited to the area through support from Sports Park Raceway, the Fort Dodge Convention and Visitors Bureau and other local businesses.

Here is the schedule for the weekend races:

Friday

2 p.m.-4 p.m. — 50cc Youth

4 p.m. — Electric

7 p.m.-11 p.m. — Adult UTV/SxS

Saturday

7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. — Youth ATV

1 p.m.-11 p.m. — Adult ATV Iron Man
