Gaels lose twice to Wildcats

HUMBOLDT — The St. Edmond baseball team dropped two games to Humboldt on Monday night.

In a make up game that was started at Rogers Park at the end of May, the Gaels lost 21-9. Humboldt picked up a home victory 11-6 over St. Edmond.

In the 11-6 contest, the two teams combined for 25 hits.

“I thought the bottom of our lineup hit really well,” said St. Edmond head coach Mike Szalat. “We were right there with them and we made a pitching change to set up our pitching for down the stretch.

“I thought we pitched well, they are just a really good hitting team.”

The bottom of the Gael lineup came up big, recording six hits and driving in two runs.

Johnny Dickerson, Tyler McDowell and JT Laufersweiler had two hits each from the sixth, eighth and ninth spot in the lineup. McDowell and Laufersweiler each had RBI.

Landon Bartlett also had two hits and an RBI.

John Nemmers, Hayden Derrig and Emanuel Perry each drove in runs.

For Humboldt, the bottom of the lineup came up big as well. Their five through eight hitters had seven hits and 10 RBI.

Isaiah Busick and Trevor Jacobson had three hits each.

Busick drove in three runs and had a double. Jacobson had two RBI.

Caden Maton, Levi Newton and Riley Sorenson had two hits each. Newton and Sorenson had two RBI each. Joshua Thurm, Busick and Sorenson all had doubles.

The rain delayed game was picked up with the Wildcats leading 12-9 in the third.

“They had guys on second and third to start the game and we went to get the outs so they scored,” Szalat said. “They are by far the best hitting team that we have faced.

“My hats off to them. They played well.”

In the make up game Levi Newton had three hits, including a double, drove in three runs and scored three times.

Christian Lee had two hits and three RBI. Ty Gargano and Hayden Holm had two hits with Holm driving in two runs.

Corey Dettman and Matson drove in three runs. Thurm had a double and an RBI and Evan Hatcher scored three runs.

For the Gaels Laufersweiler had two hits and drove in two runs. McDowell had two RBI.

Derrig, Bartlett, Merry, Jackson Palmer and Dickerson all drove in runs.

The Gaels are back in aciton on Wednesday when they host Iowa Falls-Alden.
