ALBURNETT — Jalen Adams is closing in on two more career marks as the third-ranked Fort Dodge softball team cruised to the semifinals of the Linn-Mar tournament on Friday.

The Dodgers (23-5 overall) knocked off Waverly-Shell Rock in the first game 12-0 in a three-inning perfect game from freshman Lucy Porter (10-2).

In the nightcap, Adams (13-3) fanned seven and allowed four hits to move within two victories of tying Fort Dodge’s all-time wins mark. With her seven strikeouts, she now has 793 for her career — seven away from 800.

“We are hitting the ball solid and with confidence,” said FDSH head coach Andi Adams. “Even when we make a mistake, we recover quickly and pick each other up.

“They’re just having a lot of fun. We are exactly where we want to be. Honestly, I just want to keep having fun and keep getting better. I’m very proud of them and it’s fun to watch them play.”

Porter set down every batter she faced, striking out seven and only two Go-Hawks made contact.

Adams did damage at the plate for the Dodgers, hitting her fifth and sixth home runs of the season and driving in three. Tory Bennett added a longball for the Dodgers.

Haley Wills, Porter and Macy Brown each drove in two runs. Meah McCaleb and Maggie Elsbecker added an RBI.

In the nightcap, Lydia Lara drilled her first career home run. Mariah Myers hit her sixth of the season. Myers was 3-for-3 with a double as well.

Adams, Bennett, Brown and Lara had two hits each. Myers, Wills, Porter, McCaleb and Lara each drove in two.

“Our offense was outstanding,” Adams said. “Everyone in the lineup did their job and put the ball in play and scored runs.”

Fort Dodge is back in action on Saturday when they face Fort Madison at 11:45 a.m. in Marion for one of the semifinal contests.
