Dodgers hang tough with Waukee NW

WAUKEE — The Fort Dodge baseball team battled until the end here Thursday night, but dropped a doubleheader to Waukee Northwest.

Scores were 6-4 and 2-1.

Waukee Northwest plated single runs in the first six innings, including the winning-run in the fifth after Fort Dodge had tied it at 4-all.

Drake Callon was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, hitting a home run and a double. Triston Bockoven and Carson Peterson each had a hit and an RBI, while Landen Hout scored.

Callon’s fifth inning homer tied the game after a triple by Hout.

Eli Elsbecker and Hout had the other Dodger hits.

In the nightcap, the Wolves plated the winning run in the seventh, breaking a 1-1 tie.

Bockoven had two hits, while Ulrich had a hit and drove in a run. Dalton Rosalez had the other hit for FDSH, as Callon struck out four with four walks and four hits allowed.

“We finally pitched great and it made a big difference,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “Alex (Underwood) and Royce (Pederson) gave us a great effort in the opener, and Drake pitched an incredible game in the second. It was a huge night for Drake and it felt like we did several things that we can build on moving forward.

“You want to play your best baseball in July, and now, are at in July.”

Fort Dodge returns to action on Tuesday when they host Marshalltown before welcoming in Des Moines Lincoln Thursday to conclude the regular season.

The Marshalltown doubleheader will feature introductions for those that attended the recent future Dodger camp before the first game, while seniors will be honored prior to first-pitch in the second.
