MARSHALL, Minn. -- Jennifer Flowers is taking on a new challenge.
Flowers, a 1999 graduate of Manson Northwest Webster and the daughter of Mike and Jacque Jepson, has been named the new Director of Athletics at Southwest Minnesota State University.
She recently completed her third season as the commissioner of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and has 15 years in administrative roles at the intercollegiate level.
"I am honored and excited for the opportunity to lead the Athletics Department at Southwest Minnesota State University," Flowers said. "I want to thank President Jayasuriya for his leadership and his belief in me. I would also like to thank the search committee and the SMSU community for their guidance and for showing me how special SMSU is."
Flowers becomes the first female Director of Athletics at SMSU to oversee both the women's and men's athletic programs. She previously held the roles of associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Winona State University, was an assistant women's basketball and volleyball coach at Simpson College, and was an assistant to the associate athletic director at the University of Minnesota.
In her role with the WCHA, Flowers helped the league expand and secure television agreements with Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Wisconsin.
"It was evident throughout the process that being a Mustang elicits tremendous pride," Flowers said. "I look forward to working with our talented staff and student-athletes as we take Mustang Athletics to new heights."
Flowers and her husband, Jonte, have two children: Ayanna and Kellen. She graduated from Winona State following a four-year career on the volleyball team that included being a two-year captain, two-time all-conference honoree and three-time Academic all-NSIC selection.
Flowers earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and her master's from Minnesota in education, recreation, park and leisure studies.
