Triston Lara will spend his final season on the collegiate wrestling mat in an Oregon State University singlet.
The two-time Fort Dodge Senior High state champion announced his commitment to head coach Chris Pendleton's Beavers on Tuesday night. Lara is making the nearly 2,000-mile move to Corvallis after spending nearly five full years at the University of Northern Iowa.
"I love everything about Oregon State," Lara said. "Amazing teammates and workout partners, amazing campus, amazing facilities and a world-class coaching staff.
"I think Oregon State has all the tools to help me reach my full potential and end my career the right way. Everything about my visit made me feel right at home. I am so excited to move out to Oregon and join Beaver Nation."
Lara was a 149-pound NCAA national qualifier in 2021. A broken hand sidelined him this past November, and he was on the mat only five more times for the Panthers to conclude his season.
The 2017 FDSH graduate's career record at the collegiate level is 43-33.
Lara was 7-8 last year, with all eight losses coming by decision and five by two points or fewer. He was defeated by six Top-15 ranked opponents.
Cory Crooks, rated 25th nationally, is a senior and the current starter at 149 for Oregon State.
The Beaver roster also features former Iowa City West standout Graham Gambrall and Isaiah Crosby, a junior college national champion from Iowa Western Community College. Gambrall is a freshman at 165 pounds; Crosby is a junior 157-pounder.
Oregon State is 8-3 in duals this season.
Lara was a three-time high school state finalist for the Dodgers, and a gold medalist in 2016 and 2017. His 170 career victories rank fourth in FDSH program history, and a win percentage of .934 is sixth.
Fort Dodge was the team state runner-up in both Lara's junior and senior seasons.
