Josh tops Justin in twin tilt

KEARNEY, Neb. — Both Portillo brothers came out with a win here on Saturday in a dual featuring Grand View and Nebraska-Kearney.

While Josh Portillo bested twin brother Justin Portillo in the main event at 125 pounds, Justin Portillo and the top-ranked (NAIA) Vikings earned their 112th consecutive dual meet win, 19-18.

The battle between former Clarion-Goldfield/Dows twins was the main attraction to the event. Wrestling for the first time since middle school, Josh scored in sudden victory for a 12-10 win. Justin Portillo is a four-time All-American for Grand View, while Josh Portillo is a two-time NCAA Div. II All-American for UNK.

The card also featured wins by former Fort Dodge Senior High state champion Carson Taylor and former Pocahontas Area state champion Shea Ruffridge for the Vikings.

Taylor started the dual with a 13-8 decision and Ruffridge followed with a major decision. Tanner Abbas, a former Clarion-Goldfield/Dows standout, fell to the top-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds, Sam Turner.
