Iowa Central pins Ellsworth, 39-3

IOWA FALLS — The Iowa Central wrestling team had no trouble in a Top-20 matchup with Ellsworth here Tuesday night, 39-3.

Aidan Harris, Sammy Lile, Amir Pierce, Keaton Geerts, Nolan Miller-Johnston, Josh Ramirez, Jose Rodriguez, Coleton McElliott and Jorden Pryor all earned wins for the Tritons.

“There were a few key matchups, but they all went our way,” Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt said. “At 149, Geerts went down 6-0 early but came back and dominated. Nolan had a big win, and so didn’t Josh at 165.

“We just really came out strong. Now, we get to focus on Iowa Western Thursday night.”

Harris earned a major decision at 125 pounds to begin the night. Lile followed with a fall and Pierce a technical fall.

At 149 pounds, Geerts bested fellow returning All-American Nathan Lendt, 7-6. Geerts, who was second last year, is ranked third, while Lendt, who placed sixth at nationals, is ranked sixth.

“That was just a big time win for Keaton,” Moffitt said. “He gave up a head-lock for six to begin the match, but out-wrestled him for the rest of the six-plus minutes.”

Miller-Johnston had a major decision, Ramirez won by decision, Elliott via technical fall, McElliott by decision and Pryor capped the night with a 35-second pin.

The Tritons head to Council Bluffs on Thursday to face Iowa Western at 7 p.m.
