Gaels face IF-A; head to WB-M, Humboldt

The St. Edmond basketball teams pack three games into this week, stepping outside of the conference in the middle of two NCC twinbills.

The Gael boys (6-8 overall) begin the week at home with Iowa Falls-Alden (9-6). On Thursday, they travel to face West Bend-Mallard (4-7). SEHS then finishes on the road at league-leading and sixth-ranked (Class 3A) Humboldt (12-1).

All contests will begin at 6:15 p.m. with the girls as part of the doubleheader.

Both the Cadets and Gaels enter on three-game losing streaks in boys action.

Iowa Falls-Alden has lost consecutively to Algona, Hampton-Dumont/CAL and Webster City.

In the first meeting against the Cadets, the Gaels came up short, 62-43. St. Edmond was led by Hayden Mayer (14 points) and Quinten McCarville (10).

Blake Janssen (16 points) and Jaden Damiano (11) led the Cadets.

On the season, Mayer is averaging 18.6 points per game. Jackson Palmer (10.8) is next in line, along with McCarville (8.4) is behind.

Janssen is the leading scorer (13.5) for IF-A, followed by Andrew Bicknese (12.9) and Camden Stalzer (7.9).

West Bend-Mallard is powered offensively by Collin Montag at 12.5 points per night. Sam Fehr is also scoring double digits at 11.9, and Max Fehr is averaging 9.3.

The Gaels fell in the first meeting vs. Humboldt 66-57. Caden Matson led the Wildcats with 21 points and Will Orness chipped in 14. McCarville (19) and Mayer (17) paced the Gaels.

Orness leads the Wildcats in scoring at 14.1 per game. Matson is averaging 12.7, and Joshua Thurm is next in line at 9.4.

Humboldt suffered its first loss at Clear Lake last Friday, 55-50.

In the first meeting against the Cadets (4-11), the Gael girls (0-14) lost by a final of 47-27. Hailey Bridgewater led the way with 19 points and Ella Sharar added 17.

St. Edmond is led in scoring by Gracie Harvey (6.6), Katie Flaherty (5.6) and Mya McClain (3.8).

The Cadets are paced by Sharar (13.5), Bridgewater (7.2) and Abigail Ites (3.8).

The Wolverines girls (2-6) are coming off a loss to GTRA. Kierstin Montag leads WB-M at 17 points per game. Hailey Stalzer (8.9) and Abi Schmidt (6.0) are next in line.

In the first contest against the Wildcats (8-6), St. Edmond lost, 68-34.

Humboldt is paced by Morgan Mann (15.4), Alexis Hansen (11.1) and Reagan Lee (5.9).

In the first meeting, Mann had 23, Lee 16 and Joie Smith 12.
