Another win for Tritons

The 18th-ranked Iowa Central women have found their rhythm on the court.

After rolling past Des Moines Area on Thursday night, the Tritons made it four in a row with an 80-60 victory over Southeastern here Saturday afternoon inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

Jayden Frank scored 19 points with six assists, Carley West had 15 with eight rebounds and eight assists, and Nevaeh Galloway scored 11 with three blocks to lead the way for Iowa Central (18-1 overall, 8-1 in ICCAC).

As a team, the Tritons sank 12 three-pointers, including seven in the first half when they ran off 14 straight points to begin the game.

“Our 3-point shooting has just been really strong here as of late,” Iowa Central head coach Brian Ortmeier said. “It started on Thursday at DMACC and carried right over. We got a little careless there in the second quarter with the basketball, but we fixed that at half and finished the game strong.”

Frank, who had 21 points against the Bears earlier this week, had eight straight points to fuel the fast start. She finished the opening half with 14, including four triples.

Emma Scurek, another newcomer, added six points and eight rebounds, while Nevaeh Moeschter chipped in nine points and four boards. Ashley Fountain had five rebounds and Taylor McKinney scored eight points.

“We are seeing exactly what we saw out of those three freshmen who play key minutes that we saw when they were in high school,” Ortmeier said. “Sometimes, it can take a little bit to get familiar and comfortable at the collegiate level, but they are settling in nicely and really helping the team.”

The Tritons hit the road to face NIACC in Mason City on Wednesday before returning home to host Iowa Western next Saturday.
