No. 8 Centennial bests Dodger girls

ANKENY — The short-handed Fort Dodge girls dropped a 72-40 decision to eighth-ranked (Class 5A) Ankeny Centennial here Friday night.

Jalen Adams scored 17 points with Tory Bennett adding eight and Mackenzie McIlrath seven.

Aleaha Pommer and Lainey Maehl each had four, with Pommer grabbing nine rebounds. Bennett also had six assists for the Dodgers (1-2 overall).

“We were missing some key players and only dressed eight,” FDSH head coach Scott Messerly said. “That really makes it tough to compete at this level for four quarters.”

Centennial built on a 14-6 lead after the first, going into the break up 36-13.

Makenna Clark had 22 points to lead the Jaguars (4-0).

Fort Dodge returns to action Tuesday when they host No. 11 West Des Moines Dowling at 6:15 p.m. The game will be the third time already this season the Dodgers have played a ranked team, having also faced off against sixth-rated West Des Moines Valley.
