Gaels head to Carroll
CARROLL — The St. Edmond wrestling team will wrap up the first part of their schedule as they head to Carroll for an Invitational.
Action will begin at 10 a.m.
Area schools joining host Carroll and the Gaels will be Manson Northwest Webster, Pocahontas Area and Greene County.
Also in attendance are Ames, Clarinda, Denison, Carroll Kuemper and Westwood.
Wrestling for the Gaels will be Sam Myer (132), Mason Billingsley (138), Logan McElroy (145), Grant Webster (182) and Adam Walker (195).
“Coming off of our meet on Tuesday, we realized we were slow on our feet and had bad reaction time,” said St. Edmond head coach Eugene Carlson. “We are trying to correct that and not make as many mistakes.
“We need to create scoring opportunities rather than them scoring on us.”
Elly Berry and Andee Barwin will compete in the Dodger gym in the girls division of the Don Miller Invitational.
“Elly is in her fourth year and we want her to celebrate that,” Carlson said. “She’s undefeated and we want her to work on that and keep improving to try to work her way to the medal stand at state this season. It will be nice for her to meet some of the girls from the metro area.
“With Andee being a first time wrestler, we want her to get some good experience. We want her going in with the expectation of getting three wins.”
