Six Gaels make all-district team

Six members of the St. Edmond football team earned all-district honors for the 2021 season.

Seniors Isaac Landwehr and Tyler Rossmanith were selected to the Eight-Player, District 2 first team for the Gaels, with classmates Quinten McCarville and Cayne Reed making the second.

Juniors Caleb Schaeffer and Johnny Dickerson were honorable mention selections.

“It was great to see the kids honored for their hard work, especially the seniors,” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “The kids are all very deserving, I just wish we could have sent them out with a better season.”

Landwehr led the Gaels with 84.5, including 61 solo stops, three sacks and eight tackles for loss. He also picked off three passes, returning one for a score, and recovered a fumble.

On offense, Landwehr was third on the team with 22 receptions for 435 yards and tied for second with five touchdowns.

Rossmanith led St. Edmond with 657 rushing yards and six scores, adding seven receptions for 70 yards. He also had 49.5 tackles on defense with 32 solo stops.

McCarville had team-highs in receptions (32), receiving yards (471) and receiving TDs (seven). He averaged just under 15 yards per reception while also making 36 tackles on defense with an interception.

Reed had 43.5 tackles, 27 being solo stops, with 5.5 tackles for loss.

Schaeffer threw for 884 yards and 13 touchdowns, ran for 202 yards and four scores and had a receiving TD. He also made six tackles, picked off two passes and averaged almost 40 yards per punt.

Dickerson was second on the team with 26 receptions for 437 yards and five scores, making 37 tackles on defense. He also picked off three passes, recovered a fumble, averaged 15 yards on kickoff returns and almost 11 yards on punt returns.

“Those seniors were freshmen when I started,” Dillon said. “They all really put in the time to become better football players and I am so proud of them. They were a joy to coach and great to be around.”

Nate Bronk, Cal Birkey and Caden Roethler made the first team for Bishop Garrigan, with Aidan Hovey and Jacob Leerar second. Collin Casey and Garrett Heying were honorable mention.

West Bend-Mallard’s Aaron Massner, Lucas Fehr and Max Fehr made the first-team, Sam Fehr and Garrett Fehr second, and Ethan Zaugg and Landon Montag honorable mention.

Lucas Fehr earned specialist of the year and Montag was named punter of the year in the district.

Landwehr, Alex Tiernan, Rossmanith, John Nemmers, Tyler McDowell, Grant Webster and Yoon Sang Kim were named first team academic all-district with Schaeffer, McCarville and Landon Bartlett making honorable mention.

Harris-Lake Park won the district with GTRA finishing second. Tyler Jurva of Harris-Lake Park was voted defensive MVP, Max Hough from GTRA offensive MVP and Logan Mayberry from Northwood-Kensett kicker of the year.

Riley Sabin from North Iowa was named lineman of the year, Todd Hough of GTRA earned the top coach honor with Harris-Lake Park’s Jared Rahe and Beau Jergens of West Bend-Mallard named assistant coaches of the year.
