Sanck paces Triton bowlers

WATERLOO — The Iowa Central bowling team was in action this past weekend at the Cedar Valley Invitational with Leah Sanck earning all-tournament status.

Sanck, a St. Edmond High School graduate who won a state bowling title while competing for Fort Dodge Senior High, finished fifth overall on Sunday to score her honor.

On Saturday, Samantha Wangen was eighth overall and Madelynn Kropp 14th for the Triton women, while Dale Weaver finished sixth and Marcus Yamada seventh for the men. Ethan Ervin was 11th and Jordan Pelant was 12th.

Along with Sanck’s finish on Sunday, Sara Byers had a high-game score of 268. Pelant placed seventh, Weaver eighth and Jacob Kraft 10th.

Iowa Central was third overall in both team standings on Saturday with the women moving up to second on Sunday behind only Mount Mercy while the men finished third again.

“We are still working on some spare shooting issues which will make a big difference in the standings at these tournaments,” Iowa Central head coach Gregg Haden said. “Overall, we had some success in what we are working on in practice. It was good to get the JV squads some time in competition and some of them made a statement to be looking at that varsity roster.”

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Kaleb Anderson, a bowler for Iowa Western, was on the all-tournament team on the men’s side by taking first place overall.

The Tritons return to the lanes this weekend in Wichita for the Mid-States Championships.
