Playoffs: Dodgers head to Bondurant

8 remaining area schools find out Round of 16 assignments

Fort Dodge will face Bondurant-Farrar on the road in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs this Friday night.

The Dodgers capped a 7-2 regular season with a postseason-clinching 35-15 victory over Le Mars. Their reward is a Round of 16 game against the Bluejays, who are 8-1 and feature a precocious running back.

Titus Cram is only a sophomore, but he has already received an offer to play for the University of Iowa. Cram has rushed for 1,188 yards and 22 touchdowns at over eight yards per carry in 2021.

This will be FDSH’s fourth consecutive playoff showing, and sixth in the last eight years. The Dodgers recorded seven regular-season victories for the fifth time since 2009 this fall.

Seventh-ranked Bondurant-Farrar has lost only once — to No. 3 Indianola (8-1). The Bluejays capped one of the most successful campaigns in school history with a 23-7 victory over ninth-rated Norwalk last Friday night.

Fort Dodge is one of eight area schools still in the playoff hunt and playing for quarterfinal bids this week.

No. 10 Webster City (7-2) will take on Norwalk (6-3) at home in another Class 4A contest. Like the Lynx, Humboldt (9-0) is a district champion and will now host, as the Wildcats square off with Hampton-Dumont/CAL (5-4) in the opening round of the 3A bracket.

Algona (5-4) heads to Sergeant Bluff-Luton (7-2) in 3A action.

Sixth-rated Southeast Valley (8-1) routed Sheldon in a 2A playoff opener last Friday. The Jaguars’ next test comes against Iowa Falls-Alden (6-3) in Gowrie this Friday, with the winner taking on either Greene County (8-1) or two-time defending state champion OABC-IG (8-1).

South Central Calhoun advanced past Emmetsburg in round one. The Titans (8-1) now face ACGC (8-1) at home on Friday for a Class 1A quarterfinal spot.

Newell-Fonda (8-1) is at Lenox (9-0) in an eight-player second round tilt. The Mustangs routed Janesville last week to easily move on.
