Iowa Central knocks off Marshalltown, 4-1
The Iowa Central men’s soccer team returned the favor on No. 17 Marshalltown here Tuesday at Rogers Sports Complex, posting a 4-1 victory.
At the end of September, the Tritons were topped by the Tigers, 5-1. They have since won two of three to move closer to securing a third place finish in the ultra-competitive ICCAC Div. I standings.
“This was a big, big win for our guys,” Iowa Central head coach Pablo Rodriguez said. “To lose to them 5-1 and get a 4-1 win here shows the mental toughness we have.
“Hopefully we can finish the regular season off strong, move into the Top-20 and avoid that first round game in the regional tournament.”
Iowa Central (8-5 overall, 2-4 in league) received two goals and two assists from Lucas Pollacchi along with goals by Kenet Lopez and Ombeni Mubake. Narvis Bent had two assists and Come Grieu five saves.
The Tritons quickly put three goals on the board in the first half, taking the wind out of Marshalltown’s (7-4-1, 2-4-1) attack. They added a late fourth goal after the Tigers got on the board in the final stages of the game.
A pair of regular season matches remain on the docket for Iowa Central, as they host Indian Hills this Saturday before finishing out at No. 2 Iowa Western next Tuesday.
