Indians upset No. 1 Jaguars
SPIRIT LAKE — Top-ranked Southeast Valley suffered its first loss of the season, falling to No. 6 Spirit Lake, 21-14.
The district champion Jaguars (7-1 overall, 4-1 2A-2) held a 14-7 first half lead, but the Indians (6-2, 3-2) scored 14 unanswered in the second half.
Kolson Kruse started the Jaguar scoring with a four-yard touchdown run. Lathe Muench added a six-yard run in the second quarter.
With the score 21-14 the Jaguars had the ball with 5:40 remaining at their own 30.
Southeast Valley picked up a first down and advanced to their own 40.
Kruse connected with Tre Fisher for a 45-yard pass, to the Indian 15-yard line. The Jaguars gained a couple of yards, but the drive stalled out in the red zone.
Kruse finished 6-for-17 passing for 98 yards. He carried the ball 21 times for 108 yards.
Muench had 14 carries for 52 yards.
Spirit Lake out gained the Jaguars 278 to 257.
