Humboldt travels to W-SR for regional final

WAVERLY — For Humboldt to reach its second straight state volleyball tournament, the Wildcats will have to go through third-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock.

No. 15 Humboldt (29-6 overall) will face the powerful Go-Hawks (41-7) in a Class 4A Region 6 championship here on Tuesday. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Humboldt knocked off Spencer in five games during a 4A semifinal matchup. The Wildcats have won 18 of their last 20 matches overall.

The Go-Hawks, meanwhile, are coming off a 3-0 victory over Webster City in the semis. They have won eight straight matches, not losing a game in the process.

The two teams faced off at the Mason City tournament during the regular season, where W-SR ended the Wildcats’ 14 match win streak at the time.

Addie Thompson leads the team with 245 kills, followed by Marissa Kaufman (163), Kayla Gleber (142), Shelbie Heinz (130) and Tayla Wempen (128).

Jennika Beach (376) is Humboldt’s pacesetter in digs, while Thompson has 216.

Avery Beckett (397) leads the Go-Hawks in kills with 397, followed by Averi Weichers (233) and Ashli Ham (186). Annika Behrends has 468 digs, while Ham has 341 and Sophie Sedgwick has 261.

Both squads lost during the regular season to Bondurant-Farrar, which is playing in the Region 2 championship.
