Triton teams still in nation’s Top-10

Volleyball No. 1; football rated 8th

The Iowa Central volleyball and football teams remained ranked first and eighth in the latest polls released by the NJCAA.

The Triton volleyball program improved to 20-0 this past weekend with four wins at the North Dakota State College of Science Tournament. Iowa Central has held that spot since besting then-No. 1 Parkland, who is now third.

All seven first place votes went to the Tritons, with Cowley County second. They are the only two unbeaten teams in Div. II.

Iowa Central returns to ICCAC action on Wednesday, hosting Iowa Lakes at Hodges Fieldhouse. Three other league teams are in the Top-15 with Kirkwood eighth, Hawkeye 12th and Des Moines Area 14th.

After defeating Gordon Fine Arts and Sports Academy this past Saturday, 84-6, the Triton football team held firm at No. 8. Iowa Central (3-0 overall) hosts fourth-ranked Iowa Western (2-0) on Sunday inside Dodger Stadium.

Earlier this season, the Tritons earned a win over No. 15 Lackawanna and have also topped Div. III’s second-ranked team, College of DuPage.

The Iowa Central men’s soccer team is receiving votes for the first time this season. The Tritons (5-1-1) take on No. 4 Iowa Lakes at Rogers Sports Complex on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Iowa Western is ranked second and Marshalltown is No. 19 from the ICCAC.
