Coming off a tough stretch and headed into their home invitational this weekend, Ashley Beaumont gave her Fort Dodge girls swim team a “night off” of sorts on Tuesday.

The Dodgers still put there complete varsity lineup in the pool, but Beaumont allowed the swimmers to enjoy different events against Ankeny, who claimed a 128-42 victory.

“We’ve been really pushing the girls with our meets and practices,” Beaumont said. “We’re getting geared up for the Gary Winkler Invitational (Saturday), so we wanted to allow them the chance to stay competitive, but also have some fun.”

Freshman Julia Eastman was second in a pair of events and also swam on both runner-up relays. Junior Eileen Fierke and sophomore Raegan Wooldridge added individual silvers, with Fierke also scoring a bronze.

“I was still really happy with our swims,” Beaumont said. “Our 200 free relay had a great time, Eileen had a good swim in the individual medley, and Julia had some strong swims again.

“Even our junior varsity had a good night.”

Eastman clocked a time of 2:09.34 in the 200 freestyle, which included a 30.07 opening swim. She went 1:04.91 in the 100 butterfly with another opening leg of 30.32.

The freshman was the opening swim on the 200 medley relay that went 2:00.51 and had the second leg on the 200 freestyle relay, which went 1:49.76.

The medley also consisted of Wooldridge, Addison Daniel and Fierke, with Fierke, Daniel and Makenna Kammerer the free.

“We’re still working on getting things figured out with our relays,” Beaumont said. “But we saw good progress from them again.”

Fierke had a time of 5:47.69 in the 500 free for her runner-up spot, while Wooldridge went 1:15.30 in the 100 breaststroke for second. Fierke was third in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.50.

Fort Dodge had a second place in the junior varsity 100 breaststroke from Hope Miller, while Emily Dawson (200 freestyle), Lilian Shin (50 freestyle) and Maria Elizondo (100 butterfly) all grabbed third.

Joining the host Dodgers this Saturday will be West Des Moines Dowling, Sioux City North and Spencer. Swimming begins at 10 a.m.
