Dodgers swept at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge volleyball team lost in straight sets to Marshalltown on Tuesday.

The Dodgers (2-12 overall) lost 25-15, 25-12 and 25-19.

Fort Dodge took an early 8-3 lead in Game 1, but the Bobcats closed on a 22-7 run to gain the momentum heading into the second set. Marshalltown (4-9) then cruised to a 25-12 victory.

The Dodgers played a little closer in the final set. Fort Dodge held a 19-18 lead, but Marshalltown scored the final seven points for the victories.

“We were up 8-3 early and things were going well,” said FDSH coach Martha Mericle. “We only had six more points, though, and just kept making mistakes.”

Mackenzie McIlrath led the Dodgers in kills with seven, while Lainey Maehl had six.

Olivia Totten was 8-for-8 at the service line with one ace. Macy Brown had nine digs, while Mariah Myers had two blocks and Maggie Elsbecker added 15 assists.

“We have yet to complete a match and find ways to win,” Mericle said.

The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday at the Cedar Falls Invitational.
