If the weather cooperates, the 2021 Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota Webster County golf tournament is shaping up to be a parade of champions all the way to the top.

A total of 11 former winners are registered for this year’s event, which begins on Saturday at Lakeside Golf Course and concludes on Sunday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

Defending titleists Ryan Reeder (men’s open), Greg Sampson (men’s super senior), Delaney Conrad (women’s open) and Kathy Fortune (women’s senior) will all be in action again this weekend. Austin Morrow, Eddie Doyle, Lucas Peed, Phil Ruth, Randy Stults, Kelsey Felch and Peg Christensen are among the contenders looking to recapture past glory.

Reeder has won two of the previous three men’s open division races. Last August, he carded a seven-under par 65 early in the day and a three-under 33 in the championship round at Lakeside to close ahead of Morrow, Doyle and Cody Jaeschke.

Cole Jaeschke, the 2021 Lakeside Amateur winner, is also lurking in what should be a deep, unpredictable race.

Kevin Conrad — the 2020 men’s senior runner-up — is entered, along with Stults and Coi Nguyen, who were also in contention last summer.

Delaney Conrad, a freshman on the Minnesota State Unversity golf team, will be looking for her third women’s open title in four years. She first unseated Felch — the seven-time defending champ — in 2018.

Fortune — the 2015 and 2020 women’s senior winner — will be paired with Christensen, who prevailed in 2013, ’16 and ’17.

The forecast is a concern. While temperatures are expected to hold steady in the upper-60s on Saturday, the chances for precipitation will linger most of the morning, with higher odds from 11 a.m. on. The first tee time is slated for 8 a.m., with the last foursome scheduled to tee off at 11:52.

The championship flight will be on Sunday evening after the 18-hole second round at the FDCC, beginning at approximately 5 p.m.

Faiferlick Martial Arts and Next Edge Performance of Fort Dodge are again sponsoring closest-to-the-pin contests on all four par-3s at Lakeside on Saturday in both the men’s and women’s divisions. The winners will take home $100 each, with a limit of one prize per person.

Lakeside is a par 36-36–72 layout. The Country Club is par 35-36–71.
