MASON CITY — The second-rated (Class 5A) Fort Dodge softball team was efficient and overpowering in their doubleheader at Mason City on Monday, sweeping the Mohawks in what amounted to barely two hours of total field time.

The Dodgers blanked the Mohawks twice, rolling 14-0 and 15-0. Both contests lasted only three innings.

Sluggers Tristin Doster and Mariah Myers feasted on Mason City pitching as Fort Dodge (15-3 overall) stretched its win streak to nine games. Doster, a senior, homered in each contest and drove in seven; Myers, just an eighth grader, went deep and added five RBI to her season ledger, which ranks among the best in 5A.

The Dodgers showed plenty of balance at the plate, with juniors Haley Wills and Maia Davis recording four hits a piece without making an out. Wills drove in three for the twinbill.

Senior Chloe Wertz finished with five RBI.

“Everyone was hitting the ball hard,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “It’s great to see the confidence building and so many different players contributing.

“Mariah Myers especially is just really tough to get out (Myers is hitting .500 with 29 RBI and no strikeouts in 54 at-bats). TK (Doster) is heating up. Maia’s average is over .400 now. Haley had a big night. Chloe continues to drive in runs at important moments. And it doesn’t stop there.”

Senior Sophia Klinger and junior Tory Bennett scored twice and didn’t make an out in the opener. Bennett doubled, with junior Martyne Lowrey and Wills legging out triples.

Fort Dodge plated six runs in the first inning and eight more in the second.

Junior Jalen Adams (10-0) again did it all, firing a three-inning no-hitter and blasting a two-run home run.

The nightcap was more of the same, as the Dodgers improved to 21-1 against Mason City since 2014. Doster was 3-for-3, with Myers, Davis, Klinger and Wills adding two hits each. Klinger, Wertz, Myers and Doster doubled.

Lowrey crossed home three times. Adams, Doster, Bennett and Klinger scored twice.

Dodger eighth-grader Lucy Porter improved to 5-0 in the pitcher’s circle.

“We were smart on the bases and really wanted to make sure we weren’t rubbing anything in,” Adams said. “It’s important to try and get through games like these without any injuries and just keep moving forward.”

The Mohawks are now 3-15.

Fort Dodge returns to action on Wednesday at home against Marshalltown (2-10).
