Gaels win seventh straight
ALTA — The St. Edmond softball team has put together a seven-game stretch that has helped build momentum in the Gael camp.
The Gaels (8-3 overall) beat Alta-Aurelia 7-2 on Thursday, their seventh straight victory. St. Edmond has already won two more games then last season’s total (6-10).
“Our hitting has been outstanding during this stretch,” said St. Edmond head coach Bill Shirbroun. “We’ve been doing a pretty good job of throwing strikes and getting key outs.
“We also have been putting runners on and putting pressure on the other team with our base running.”
Against Alta-Aurelia the Gaels only had six hits, but have 88 hits during the win streak.
“We had a big win against Webster City and I talked to the girls about not having a let down,” Shirbroun said. “We struggled at the plate, but we did enough to pull out the victory.”
Gracie Harvey led St. Edmond at the plate with two hits, including a double and scored two runs. Kaili Henning also scored twice.
Kacey Kruthoff drove in three runs. Ella Vratny had a triple and an RBI, while Lauren Gibb also drove in a run.
The Gaels are back in action on Friday when they travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (0-10). First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
