Gaels go 1-1 at Van Meter

VAN METER — The St. Edmond softball squad saw the program’s longest win streak in six years come to an end against No. 8 (Class 2A) Van Meter, but the Gaels rebounded to blank South Hamilton here on Saturday.

The Gaels (10-4 overall) handled the Hawks by a final of 5-0 after falling to the host Bulldogs, 12-0.

In the victory over South Hamilton, eighth-grader Lauren Gibb had a pair of doubles and drove in two while going 3-for-4 at the plate. Gracie Harvey was 2-for-4 and scored twice for SEHS.

Payton Bradley added two hits, including a double. Kacey Kruthoff did the same.

Ella Vratny struck out 10 and allowed just three hits in the shutout.

St. Edmond returns to North Central Conference action on Monday against Humboldt. First varsity pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. at Rogers Park.
