Willie Williams has been named the next Fort Dodge Senior High varsity boys basketball coach, a source confirmed to The Messenger.

An official announcement is expected to come from the school on Wednesday morning.

The 29-year-old Williams, a former Dodger basketball player himself and a 2011 FDSH graduate, will replace Tom Daniel at the helm. Daniel stepped down after 13 seasons as the program’s head coach in late-March.

Williams, a former Iowa Central football player, has served as an assistant on Daniel’s staff since 2014. He currently works at Fort Dodge Senior High.

Daniel won 111 games during his tenure. He will serve as dean of students at the Fort Dodge Middle School and its activities director, beginning this fall.

Williams and his wife, Paige, have three children: son, Willie Jr., age 6; daughter, Pipar, 1; and son, Wilder, 2 months.

Complete coverage from the Williams promotion will be in Thursday’s Messenger sports section.
