Gaels knock off Lions

CLEAR LAKE — The St. Edmond girls tennis team knocked off Clear Lake 8-1 on Monday night.

Earning victories in singles matches were Leah Neverman, Ashlyn Headlee, Lilly Kolacia, Katie Flaherty and Anna Kolacia.

In doubles action, Sydney Engles/Neverman, Headlee/Lilly Kolacia and Flaherty/Anna Kolacia all picked up wins.

“There were some very close matches with each team trying to deal with a night of strong wins,” said St. Edmond head coach Shawn Neverman. “We had our first tie-break match of the year and Katie Flaherty was able to come away with the win.

“Engels and Neverman also came storming back after an early deficit to rally to win the tie-break match in doubles action. The girls played their best tennis of the year. It was definitely fun for me to see them battle and come away with the win.”

On Friday, the Gaels dropped a 6-3 decision to Grundy Center.

Singles winners on the night were Leah Neverman by a score of 8-1 and Ashlyn Headlee by a score of 8-6.

Katie Flaherty and Anna Kolacia rolled in their doubles match, 8-1.

The Gaels are back in action on Thursday at Webster City.
