Fort Dodge girls top DM East

DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge girls tennis team picked up a 7-4 victory here Thursday over Des Moines East.

Earning wins in singles were Ellie White, Olivia Bell, Meadow Balkenende and Tabitha Teske. White, Bell and Teske scored straight-set victories, with Balkenende picking up a win in three.

“I was proud of everyone,” FDSH head coach Martha Mericle said. “They have really shown a lot of improvement here over the past couple of weeks. I thought the girls played really well.”

In doubles, White and Bell, Balkenende and Anna Marxen, and Sydney Gebers and Olivia Hamlow posted wins. Balkenende and Marxen, along with Gebers and Hamlow, won in three sets.

“We made the right corrections in those matches and were able to pull out some big victories,” Mericle said. “Even the ones we lost, they were very close.”

Fort Dodge returns to action on Monday when they host Ankeny Centennial.
