DES MOINES — Prior to Rachel Fehr’s arrival on the scene for West Bend-Mallard girls track, the program had just three state titles.
In two appearances at Drake Stadium, Fehr matched that number, claiming the 200-meter dash in 26.15 to go along with her 400-meter run title won earlier in the meet.
Fehr finished just ahead of South O’Brien’s Willa Sickelka, who clocked a time of 26.41.
“I knew it was the last race of my high school career and I just wanted to run my best,” Fehr said. “The 200 was new to me this year so I’ve had a lot of fun seeing what I could do in that event.
“Overall, we had a good weekend and I’m happy to have the opportunity to run down here with my teammates and some of the best runners in the state.”
In 2019, Fehr became the first-ever girls individual champion when she won the 400. She holds school records in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 events.
Bishop Garrigan’s shuttle hurdle relay of Gracie Rosenmeyer, Reese Rosenmeyer, Emma Grandgenett and Molly Joyce added to a big week by claiming silver. The group finished in a time of 1:08.7 for the Golden Bears, who were sixth overall in Class 1A.
Reagan Murphy, Gracie Elsbecker, Joyce and Abbie Capesius added a bronze in the 4×400, recording a time of 4:11.85. Newell-Fonda’s Mary Walker, Macy Sievers, Bailey Sievers and Maggie Walker were sixth in 4:16.54.
North Union’s Bryer Prochniak picked up medals in both the 100 and 200. Prochniak finished sixth in the 100 in 11.36 and eighth in the 200 in 23.27. His teammate, Anna Longhenry, was eighth in the 100 hurdles (16.39).
Bailey Sievers from Newell-Fonda finished seventh in the 800, clocking a time of 2:22.8.
