Carlson wins NCC title for Humboldt

IOWA FALLS — Humboldt’s Nora Carlson won the North Central Conference title in record fashion on Monday.

The Wildcat junior set a school record, firing a 76 to claim top honors over Clear Lake’s Meghan DeLong (77).

“I was pleased with my play,” Carlson said. “I’m grateful to have come out on top of the tough competition in the NCC meet.”

The Lions grabbed the team title, shooting a 355, while the Wildcats were second with a 387. Iowa Falls-Alden (400) was third, followed by Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (424), Hampton-Dumont-CAL 945), Webster City (451), Algona (464) and St. Edmond (562).

Carlson had two birdies on the front nine and shot par for the round.Carlson’s teammate Noelle Hammand tied for eighth after shooting a 100.

“I hit a fair amount of greens and fairways and also made some nice up and downs,” Carlson said. “I focused on the process and just tried to shoot a good score.

“It was a fun day on the course.”

Clear Lake had three individuals in the top-five, led by runner up Meghan DeLong (77). Rebecca DeLong (84) was third, followed by Jaden Ainley (95).

Ellie Driscoll (133) had the top score for the Gaels. Kara McGonegle (140) and Maddie Hepperle (141) were next in line.

“We really struggled on the back nine,” said St. Edmond head coach Kelsey Felch. “Maddie (Hepperle) had her nine hole low for the season and Caitlyn (Croonquist) tied hers.”

The Gael girls are back in action on Friday when they host a sectional meet at Lakeside.
