Algona duo, C-G/D’s State top all-NCC boys charts
Algona teammates Noah Nelson and Garrett Goche joined Connor State of Clarion-Goldfield/Dows as first team all-North Central Conference boys picks for the 2020-21 campaign.
Nelson, a senior, averaged 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Goche, a junior, was at 13.0 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who were 11-3 and alone in second place in the final league standings.
State, a junior, scored at a 16.9-point clip while also pulling down 8.1 rebounds. State also shot 53 percent from the field.
Carson Toebe and Andrew Formanek of Clear Lake joined Karson Sharar of Iowa Falls-Alden as the other first-team selections.
Humboldt teammates Sam Fischer (11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds) and Gabe Gidel (10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds) were on the second team with Mateo Martinez of Clarion-Goldfield/Dows (16.6 points), Ty McKinney of Webster City (11.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists), and Algona’s Tyler Manske (11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds).
Hayden Mayer of St. Edmond took a third-team spot. The junior averaged 11.1 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Gaels.
Mayer was joined by Webster City’s Tavis Eklund and Tyler Olson; Algona’s Kyle Simpson and James Wartick; and Caden Matson of Humboldt.
