A week after coming up short against Iowa Western, the Iowa Central football team bounced back in convincing fashion here Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

Taking advantage of both quarterbacks and a strong ground game, the 10th-ranked Tritons rolled past Grand View JV, 41-7.

Brady Pope and Byron Jarrett each threw two touchdowns, Jadon Washington ran for 109 yards with a score and the Iowa Central (2-1 overall) defense recorded six sacks.

“We got back to what we wanted to do and that was run the ball,” Iowa Central head coach Jesse Montalto said. “We focused on using the strengths of both Brady and Byron, and Jadon really got going on the ground.”

Pope completed 13 of 21 passes for 110 yards with both of his TD strikes going to Madison Ridgeway, who had five receptions for 68 yards. Jarrett threw for 60 yards, ran for another 71 and hit Clayton Ollendieck and Jayce Levy for scores.

Daylen Boddie added 44 yards and a score with Pope also rushing for 43.

“Jadon used all of his skills on the field,” Montalto said. “Byron is a big, strong kid that doesn’t mind contact. Brady also showed off his running abilities and I thought Daylen really had a good day too.

“It was good to see us run the ball with confidence and move the chains.”

The Vikings, who are preparing for the NAIA playoffs at the varsity level, featured several former area standouts. Tyler Vitzthum, a Humboldt grad, scored the lone touchdown while Fort Dodge Senior High all-stater Drake Miller completed 7 of 14 passes for 103 yards.

Levi Egli, another ex-Dodger, recovered a fumble while fellow FDSH grad Austin Lee was a key player on defense. Logan Finowski (Fort Dodge), Cole Lewis (Algona) and Gavin Meints (Algona) were also on the roster.

For the Tritons, Ryan Johnson had two sacks with Malik Occiur, Dylan Cain, Malik Adams and Tristin Waugh all recording one each.

Iowa Central returns to action Saturday in Iowa Falls vs. Ellsworth.
