Jacobson shines for DMACC

It was a homecoming of sorts for several former members of the Humboldt softball program, as Iowa Central and Des Moines Area clashed over the weekend at Rogers Park.

Three recent Wildcat graduates competed in the pair of doubleheaders, with Elle Jacobson and the sixth-ranked Bears getting the better of the Tritons in all four games.

Jacobson picked up wins on each day, putting together a complete game on Saturday with six strikeouts, following that up with five-plus innings and four strikeouts on Sunday.

Two of the lone mistakes the former Humboldt all-state pitcher made were against ex-Fort Dodge Senior High standout Loghen Schnetzer, as the Iowa Central freshman planted two balls over the fence.

DMACC won on Saturday, 10-4 and 23-9, and on Sunday, 11-8 and 9-4.

“I just want our kids to not hang their heads after these games because we were right there with one of the top teams in our conference,” Iowa Central head coach Bo Tjebben said. “We had a couple bad innings, a few too many mistakes and against a team like DMACC, they make you pay.

“But we have a lot of season left and I feel like we have a lot of good softball left to be played.”

Mady Lange, one of the former Humboldt standouts for the No. 15 Tritons along with Carlie Thompson, had a double and drove in two runs in the first game on Saturday. Kenzie Rosenboom highlighted the second contest with two home runs while Abby Wilson collected four hits over the doubleheader.

In the first game on Saturday, Wilson had three hits and scored two runs with a double while Schnetzer drove in three and had a double. Lange stole a base and Abbie Thilges plated two runs as Iowa Central strung together a five-run seventh to nearly complete the comeback.

“We showed a lot of grit and heart there battling back,” Tjebben said. “Hopefully, we can take the positives from all four games and build off those while also correcting the mistakes we made.”

Schnetzer finished the weekend 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs and two homers while Rosenboom drove in another run.

Iowa Central heads to Mason City on Tuesday for a doubleheader with North Iowa Area.
