Iowa Central successful in Midwest Cup tune-up

GREAT BEND, Kan. — The Iowa Central swim team put together a strong showing here Saturday, just days ahead of hosting the Midwest Cup.

The Tritons will compete at home for the only time this season beginning Friday for a two-day event. The Midwest Cup also serves as the final tune-up before the NJCAA Championships take place at the end of the month.

Both the Iowa Central men and women went a perfect 3-0 in duals with Southwestern Oregon, South Georgia State and Barton during the event.

Magali Mouton and Lily Wright were both double winners in individual events, joining up with Shannon Murphy and Emily Small to capture the 400 medley relay in 4:17.81.

Mouton won the 200 freestyle in 2:07.76 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.26 while Wright claimed the 50 free in 27.07 and the 200 butterfly in 2:22.52.

On the men’s side, Johnathon Turner was first in the 50 freestyle (21.89) with Kyle McKenzie claiming both the 200 individual medley (1:56.89) and 200 breaststroke (2:06.72).

Second place finishes came courtesy Haley Snawerdt (200 free), Gerard Ijspeert (200 free, 500 free), Murphy (200 I.M.), Tjeerd Van Stein (200 I.M., 200 back), Lexi Mast (200 back), Saige Knight (500 free), the women’s 400 free relay and the men’s 400 free relay.
