Gaels win three relays
EAGLE GROVE — The St. Edmond boys track team picked up three first place finishes to earn third Tuesday at the Umstead Relays.
The Gael 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays all secured gold with the distance medley adding a silver.
Grant Heldorfer, Anthony Lacina, Sean Flattery and Kase Baker won the 4×100 in 45.39 with Parker Oswald, Flattery, Lacina and Baker claiming the 4×200 in 1:35.29.
Heldorfer, Hayden Mayer, Baker and Flattery captured the 4×400 in 3:40.63. The distance medley consisted of Braydon Smith, Zach Smith, Cayne Reed and Mayer finished in 4:00.12.
“I thought we might be sluggish without school because it throws you out of a routine,” SEHS head coach Donn Larson said. “But it was nice to be wrong at the end of the night. I thought we ran well, especially going up against some bigger schools.”
Aaron Lursen was third in both the 800 and 1600 along with helping the 4×800 earn bronze. Heldorfer, Drew Szalat and Thomas Cosgrove completed that relay with the sprint medley of Flattery, Lacina, Baker and Oswald also placing third.
“Aaron had a really good night,” Larson said. “He scored some key points for us. Also, our 4×1, 4×2 and 4×4 junior varsity relays all won and posted times fastest than some of the bigger schools in the other class.
“We have some nice depth and I know those kids are pushing the varsity kids hard.”
The Gaels return to action on Friday at Clarion.
