Dodgers fall at Spencer

SPENCER — The Fort Dodge girls tennis squad dropped a 7-2 decision in their season opener against Spencer on Monday.

Junior Ellie White prevailed in her singles match, 10-4, and also teamed with Olivia Bell to take a doubles match, 10-4.

“This was a good first outing for everyone because it was a great learning experience,” FDSH head coach Martha Mericle said. “These girls all missed a year, and (that period) is a long time to go without playing (live competition).

“We have a lot to work on, but the huge positive is we can only go up from here. I had a couple of girls say to me, ‘wow, I see some improvements even from the first day.'”

The Dodgers return to action on Thursday at home against Ankeny Centennial. The match starts at 4 p.m.
