Three-game week for Gael hoop squads
The St. Edmond basketball teams are in for another three-game week — this time in a span of four days.
The Gael girls (2-14 overall) host Webster City (2-14) on Tuesday night. They will step out of the conference to travel to Pocahontas Area (8-8) on Thursday, then finish the week at home against third-ranked Clear Lake (15-1) on Friday.
The St. Edmond boys (7-9) will look for the season sweep of the Lynx (4-6). PAC (4-11) then hosts the Gaels on Thursday. The 10th-ranked Clear Lake boys (11-1) will try to complete the 2020-21 sweep on Friday versus SEHS.
At Webster City, the Gael boys earned a 52-49 victory. Drew Schaeffer led the Gaels with 17 and Jackson Palmer had 11.
Tyler Olson and Ty McKinney had 19 each for the Lynx.
McKinney (13.6) and Olson (13.3) lead the Lynx in scoring. Tavis Eklund is scoring 12.1 per night.
Hayden Mayer (11.5) and Quinten McCarville (10.5) are the top two scorers for SEHS.
The Indian boys have won two straight contests. Pocahontas Area has four players averaging double figures: Trey Oehlertz (13.9), Luke Vanderham (13.5), Mike Vonnahme (10.5) and Luke Crosgrove (10.1).
Clear Lake earned a 79-44 victory in the first meeting with St. Edmond. Carson Toebe led the way with 28 points. Joe Faber (22) and Andrew Formanek (15) were next.
Anthony Lacina had 12 and Mayer had 11 for St. Edmond.
Toebe (19.3) and Formanek (18.8) are the top two scorers for Clear Lake.
The Gael girls picked up a 30-29 victory over the Lynx in the first meeting. Leah Neverman led the way with eight points. Kelly Stoakes and Leah Kasch had 11 each for Webster City.
Kasch and Jenna Miller are leading the scoring charge at 8.4 points a piece.
Akaysa Duitscher (16.1), Carly Janssen (15.6), and Abby Oberhelman (13.1) are all averaging double digits for the Indians.
In the first meeting against Clear Lake, the Gaels lost 81-19. The Lions had four players in double figures, led by Kaitlyn Vanderploeg’s 17 points.
Jaden Ainley is averaging 14.6 and Chelsey Holck is scoring 10.3 per night.
Neverman leads St. Edmond at 10.1 points per game.
