BROOKINGS, S.D. — Kyle McKenzie continues to add to his growing resume, setting a new pool record here Saturday at a dual meet with South Dakota State.

McKenzie broke the 400 individual medley record at the Stanley J. Marshall Center Pool, which has been used for 11 years. He finished in 4:06.38, winning by 12 seconds.

The victory was one of three for McKenzie on the day, as teammate Jonathon Turner matched him with three first place finishes.

McKenzie also won the 100 breaststroke in 59.08 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:07.99. Turner claimed the 50 free in 21.86, the 100 free in 48.89 and the 100 butterfly in 53.30.

Andrew Iverson was first in the 1000 in 10:10.48, finishing ahead of the runner-up by eight seconds and bettering his seed time by 13 seconds. Tjeerd Van Stein added a gold in the 200 backstroke in 1:57.9.

“Kyle’s time is third-best on our school’s Top-10 list,” Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. “And Andrew’s 1000 free is his best-ever non-tapered time.”

Second place finishes came courtesy of Van Stein in the 100 back (54.9), Gerard Ijspeert in the 200 free (1:49.2), Javier Santiago in the 200 butterfly (2:04.1) and Magali Mouton in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.23).

Lexi Mast was third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.31) and Mouton third in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.4). The men’s medley also finished third in 1:41.39.

“We had a very good two weeks of practice with this past week being very hard,” Plane said. “The kids stepped up and competed well against Div. I competition.”

The Tritons compete next at Barton on Saturday, March 6.
