MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge girls basketball team is picking up victories at the perfect time.

The Dodgers (7-9 overall) earned their fourth straight victory, knocking off Marshalltown 66-20 on Friday night.

“We played pretty well,” said Fort Dodge head coach Scott Messerly. “We played a few different defenses and got on them early. We shot the ball well and got some steals and layups.

“I thought we definitely passed the ball well and got a lot of assists.”

Junior Aleaha Pommer had a big night for the Dodgers, scoring 26 points.

Classmate Tory Bennett nearly had a triple-double. Bennett finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

“Aleaha went a little while, where it seemed like there was a lid on the basket,” Messerly said. “But she caught fire and ended up having a big night offensively and defensively.

“Tory had 18 and played really good. She had a great all around game.”

Tristin Doster pulled down 12 rebounds. Lainey Maehl had seven points off the bench.

“We talked at halftime that we needed to get ready for the tournament,” Messerly said. “We did a lot of things right. Marshalltown made a few shots. We put pressure in the passing lanes and we didn’t take chances. We were reading things well.”

The Dodgers open postseason play on Wednesday when they host Sioux City North.

“We had good minutes out of our bench,” Messerly said. “Ellie White and Lainey Mahel had good nights off the bench.”
