FD girls cruise to lopsided victory

The Fort Dodge girls basketball team is starting to figure some things out on the court.

The Dodgers (5-9 overall) won their second straight game, drubbing Des Moines Hoover 71-25 on Saturday.

“We did a lot of running and gunning,” said FDSH head coach Scott Messerly. “We were able to play under control and force the tempo.

“We had a lot of three-on-one and two-on-one breaks. That is where our balanced (scoring) came from. We also took care of the ball.”

The Dodgers saw five players reach double figures. Junior Tory Bennett and senior Tristin Doster had double-doubles. Bennett had 14 points and 10 assists. She was one steal away from a triple-double. Doster contributed 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Juniors Jalen Adams and Aleaha Pommer had 11 points each, while classmate Ellie White added 10 points.

The Dodgers pulled down 54 rebounds as a team and had 27 steals.

With two games left in the regular season, the Dodgers are looking to build some momentum heading into the postseason.

“This definitely builds confidence down the road,” Messerly said. “We were able to sustain our intensity and we felt good about the win.”

The Dodgers host Des Moines East on Tuesday and travel to Marshalltown on Friday.
