Dodgers tripped up at DM East

DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge boys couldn’t compelete the season sweep of Des Moines East on Thursday night.

The Scarlets (2-12 overall) knocked off the Dodgers, 80-67.

Fort Dodge (2-12) picked up a 56-51 victory in the Dodger gym a little over a week ago.

Fort Dodge took a 16-9 lead after the first quarter, but East outscored the Dodgers 27-12 in the second period.

The game was then tied at 60 with four minutes remaining, but the Scarlets went on a 20-7 run to end the contest.

“We just can’t go the last four minutes without any buckets,” said FDSH head coach Tom Daniel. “It was tied with four minutes to go and we just struggled offensively the rest of the way.”

James Jefferson had 25 points for East. In the first meeting, the Dodgers held Jefferson to 15.

Desantae McMurray and JeCari Patton had 11 points each. Tyron Wright, who used to live in Fort Dodge, added 13.

Senior Averey Martin led the Dodgers with 17 points, while Drake Callon (14) and Bradley Vodraska (12) also reached double figures.

We put up a fight,” Daniel said. “Drake had a good game both offensively and defensively. Averey had a good offensive night, and Bradley played well on both sides of the ball.”

Fort Dodge is back in action on Friday night at Des Moines Roosevelt for its regular season finale. Varsity tip is set for 7:45 p.m.
