Dodger boys in substate action

DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge boys basketball team will begin postseason play on Monday as they travel to Des Moines Hoover.

The Dodgers (2-15 overall) will face the Huskies (12-4) for the second time this seasonin a Class 4A, Substate 2 first round contest.

Tip is set for 7 p.m.

In the first meeting, Des Moines Hoover won 61-46 in the Dodger gym.

Sophomore Elijah Vos torched the Dodgers for 26 points. Vos was 10-for-13 from the floor, including six three pointers.

Sophomore Chase Henderson had 17 points. The Huskies hit eight three pointers and out rebounded FDSH, 24-11.

Head coach Tom Daniel’s squad led at halftime 27-26. The teams were tied 39-39 heading into the fourth quarter, but he Huskies went on a 22-7 run in the final frame to seal the victory.

Senior Averey Martin had 12 points to lead the Dodgers in the first meeting. Juniors Bradley Vodraska and Drake Callon had eight points each and sophomore Javion Jondle added seven.

Hoover has won four straight games and are winners of eight of their last nine.

Senior Manny Austin is leading the Huskies in scoring at 18.5 per game. Austin only had six in the first meeting with the Dodgers.

Henderson is averaging 17.7 points and has hit 39 three pointers.

Hoover has hit 104 triples on the year.

Martin is the Dodgers’ leading scorer with 13.2 per night. Vodraska (8.3), junior Carson Peterson (7.4) and Jondle (6.4) are the other leaders. Callon is averaging 6.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
