Tritons open track season

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — The Iowa Central track and field team picked up 17 event titles in opening their season here Thursday at the Coffeyville Winter Invitational.

Humboldt graduate Kirstyn Beaman picked up the title in the mile, clocking a time of 6:34.87 to win the race by over four seconds ahead of four runners from Fort Scott. She was also third in the 1000 in a time of 3:44.24, placing behind Triton teammates Chloe Lenoir and Shaunti Longfellow.

Both Hannah Connell and Kelvin Bungei were double-winners for Iowa Central. Connell captured the 200 and 60 hurdles, with Bungei winning the mile and 1000.

Other winners for the Triton women included Lilia Alvarez (3000), Madison Johnson (high jump), Victoria Adu (weight throw) and the distance medley of Lenoir, Janae Barksdale, Longfellow and Alvarez.

Joining Bungei in the win column for the Iowa Central men were Lee Eppie (400), Chris Levario (3000), Dashinelle Dyer (60 hurdles), David Bosquez (high jump) and the 4×400 and distance medley relays. Franklin Scott, Cassius Havis, Omavi Slaughter and Darius Brown ran the 4×400 with Noah Friske, Scott, Havis and Levario the distance medley.
