NCC meet in Webster City

WEBSTER CITY — Last season, Iowa Falls-Alden ended Clarion-Goldfield’s run at the top of the North Central Conference wrestling ladder.

The Cadets will defend their title on Saturday in the Webster City gym. A year ago, they crowned four champions and had two runner-up performances on their way to 198.5 points, six ahead of the runner-up Cowboys (192.5).

Humboldt (187.5) was third.

Algona, Webster City, Clear Lake and St. Edmond round out the field. Action will begin at 10 a.m.

For the Cowboys, Reed Abbas and Garrett Seaba were crowned champions in 2020, and Tyler Stein was second. It was the second title for Abbas.

Algona had two gold medalists, while Humboldt crowned three: Cresten Craven, Levi Naeve and Logan Nilles.

Webster City junior and defending state champion Camron Phetxoumphone is a two-time title holder.

St. Edmond’s Ronnie Orres (106), Emiliano Guillen (145), Grant Webster (170) and Tyler Rossmanith (182) will compete. Orres had the highest finish last winter for St. Edmond, placing fourth at 106 pounds.

Ranked for Webster city is Phetxoumphone (No. 1 at 113) and freshman Carson Dooltittle (No. 4 at 106).

The Cowboys have four rated wrestlers: Seba is fourth at 160, Abbas is sixth at 138, Remington Hanson is No. 8 at 145, and Kain Nelson is 10th at 220.

Humboldt’s Jase Goodell is fourth at 126, and Algona’s Jake Zabka is ninth at 160.

For Clear Lake, Sam Nelson is No. 6 at 132.

Iowa Falls-Alden’s Brody Hoversten is seventh at 132.

Hampton-Dumont’s three ranked wretlers are Jack Showalter (No. 6 at 113), Jakyb Kapp (No. 8 at 132) and Carl Barkema (No. 7 at 152).
