Dodgers make quick work of foes

No. 4 FDSH pins Ames, Roosevelt

AMES — The fourth-ranked Fort Dodge wrestling team started a busy stretch off in convincing fashion here Thursday night.

The Dodgers picked up lopsided dual wins over both Ames (54-19) and Des Moines Roosevelt (69-2).

Max Bishop (113 pounds), Lane Cowell (120), Carter Forbes (126) and Drake Ayala (132) picked up four consecutive falls after a Tyshon Mikesell forfeit win at 106 to begin the meet.

Damarion Ross (138) won by decision before Dreyzon Phillips (152) and Kody Cook (160) claimed pins. Matthew Surles-Davis (170) had a decision and Ben Egli (182) a fall as Fort Dodge recorded 46 takedowns.

Cook had the quickest fall in 30 seconds, with both Bishop and Drake Ayala winning in under a minute.

It was more of the same against Roosevelt with Dru Ayala (106), Bishop, Cowell, Drake Ayala, Ross, Cal Hartman (145), Phillips, Cook, Egli, Alex Read (220) and Keaton Nichols (285) all claiming wins against the Roughriders.

Dru Ayala, Cowell, Phillips, Cook and Read registered pins for Fort Dodge.

“We have a busy week with three weigh-ins, making up for missed competition in the first half,” FDSH head coach Tanner Utley said. “Any time we get a chance to take the mat, we hope for improvement. We saw some of that (Thursday).

“We’re hoping this weekend provides an opportunity to see more quality opponents as a late-season measuring stick. We’re trying to build some momentum heading into the postseason.”

Darylinn Cook, Kane Butrick, Gavin Doebel and Tyson Powers had junior varsity wins for the Dodgers.

Fort Dodge now competes on Saturday at a tournament hosted by second-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock, beginning at 10 a.m. in Waverly.
