Ankeny too much for FD boys

ANKENY — The Fort Dodge boys were unable to overcome the size and depth of Ankeny here Friday night, falling 80-48.

Averey Martin led the Dodgers (0-3 overall) with 14 points while Javion Jondle added 13. Drake Callon chipped in nine.

Carson Johnson, a freshman, scored 12 points with 6-foot-7 Bentor Neyail adding 12 for the Hawks (2-1). Braden Simonsen added 11 and 6-8 sophomore JJ Kohl had 10.

Behind a 28-12 first quarter lead, Ankeny was able to continue building the advantage. They led 46-24 at halftime and were up 67-41 heading to the fourth.

“They really shot the ball well,” FDSH head coach Tom Daniel said. “With the size they have, we didn’t think we could match up well with them. They split our zone and really did a nice job going high-to-low.

“Our kids played hard, but we were short-handed and that doesn’t help when you are playing a team like Ankeny. We’ve just got to do a better job of coaching our kids up and fixing the things that are fixable.”

Ankeny has won four in a row in the series and is 9-6 over the past 15 meetings between the two.

Fort Dodge looks for its first win of the season on Tuesday when they head to Carlisle.
