Gaels load up all-district football teams

Five senior members of the St. Edmond football team were named to the Class A, District 2 all-district first-team.

Drew Schaeffer, Parker Oswald, Brock Stanek, Kase Baker and Sean Flattery helped lead the Gaels to five wins and a second place finish in the district this past fall.

Manson Northwest Webster’s Brodie Anderson and Chris Krueger were also named to the first team alongside Bishop Garrigan’s Kellen Murphy, Kale Kramer, Derrick Kirsch and Mitch Buscherfeld.

North Union’s Ryan Lang, Christian Bierstedt and Caleb Rasch were honored as well.

St. Edmond senior Thornton Aljets earned the top kicker award with Manson Northwest Webster senior Carson Bower, who was named all-state, securing the top punter honor.

Schaeffer finished among the state’s leaders in several passing categories, including the highest quarterback rating of anyone. He threw for 18 touchdowns and ran for four more, recording 1,822 all-purpose yards.

Oswald was the leading receiver in the district and earned all-state honors after catching 37 passes for 815 yards with seven TDs, as did Stanek, who has committed to continue playing football at St. Thomas in the fall.

Baker and Flattery formed a 1-2 punch out of the backfield for St. Edmond, running for 875 yards with 12 touchdowns while adding another 374 yards and four scores in the passing game.

Anderson led the Manson NW defense with 14 tackles for loss including five sacks while Krueger had 44.5 tackles including 2.5 for loss.

West Hancock’s Cole Kelly was the offensive MVP with Alex DeRoos from Alta-Aurelia earning defensive honors. Bianchi and Baker shared the specialist award.

Mark Sanger from West Hancock was the coach of the year.

Oswald, Schaeffer, Aljets, Flattery, Stanek, Rossmanith, Isaac Landwehr and Grant Webster all earned academic all-district status. Krueger, Bianchi, Peters, Jaxon Bush, Cael Collins and Adam Strange were named for Manson NW.
