It all came together for Fort Dodge’s Kiana Touney this year on the volleyball court.

The end result was first team all-CIML Iowa Conference honors for the future Iowa Central Community College player.

Tourney was joined by teammate Brooke Hansen, who made the second team. Tory Bennett and Olivia Bell earned honorable mention status.

Marshalltown’s Autumn Finch was the lone unanimous selection with two Ankeny, two Ankeny Centennial and players from Mason City and Ames rounding out the first team squad.

Tourney recorded a team-high 198 kills with 95 digs, 28 total blocks and 31 aces. She served at a rate of 83 percent.

“What this honor means to me is actually seeing what I have accomplished,” Touney said. “All of the workouts and pushing I did to get here is why I got first-team. I put in the work and good things came from it.

“I am very happy that I have been able to show everyone what I can do.”

Fort Dodge earned six wins in Martha Mericle’s first season as head coach. The Dodgers graduate nine seniors, including Touney, Hansen, Bell, Chloe Wertz, Jacy Daniel, Alexis Bass, Tjaden Pettit-Johnston, Cheyenne Miller-Hameed and Daesha McDonald.

“Kiana is well-deserving of being first team because I think she was one of the strongest hitters in our conference,” Mericle said. “She grew as a player and leader throughout the season and continued to improve her overall play as her confidence grew.”

Hansen had 69 kills to rank second on the team with 41 total blocks including a team-leading 15 solos. She also had two aces and served at over an 82 percent mark.

“Brooke came a long way from the beginning of the season to the end,” Mericle said. “Her confidence and aggression grew in her hitting abilities, which is what you want from a middle.”

Bell led the team with 311 assists, adding 10 kills, 41 digs, eight blocks and 12 aces. She also connected on 84 percent of her serves.

Bennett, a junior, finished with 13 assists, six kills, 234 digs, a team-high 16 aces and served at just over 90 percent.
